Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) will hold a virtual groundbreaking Tuesday (Oct. 6) for a project at Westside Elementary School in Thermal that will improve water supply reliability and fire flow.
“Due to safety precautions related to Covid-19, we determined that it wouldn’t be feasible to have a traditional groundbreaking but we still wanted to celebrate this milestone for such an important project,” said Katie Evans, CVWD Director of Communications and Conservation. “By streaming live, viewers can join us in the celebration and get an overview of the project.”
The private, on-site well at this school in Thermal for nearly 500 K-6 students has no redundancy or back-up power. The project will install an offsite 1,350-foot pipeline for improved water supply reliability and fire flow. The project was made possible thanks to grant funding from the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) as part of the Safe and Affordable Funding for Equity and Resiliency (SAFER) Drinking Water Program.
The virtual groundbreaking will stream simultaneously on CVWD’s Facebook, YouTube and Twitter accounts and can be seen beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at this link: Westside School Virtual Groundbreaking
