Lettuce Fields
Approximately 4,325 acres of lettuce were grown in the valley in 2005. Of all the fruits and vegetables grown in the valley, more acreage is only devoted to table grapes, dates, lemon/limes and bell peppers, respectively.

Although urban development has significantly changed the Coachella Valley in recent years, the region's beginnings are firmly rooted in agriculture and farming continues as an important contributor to the local economy. Pioneer farmers were responsible for bringing Colorado River water to the valley, and this imported water source plays a crucial role in efforts to management local supplies. Farm Water Watch is published by the district to provide Colorado River water users with information about government activities and other circumstances that affect their imported water source.
