Evans named steering committee chair of California Data Collaborative

Katie Evans, Director of Communications and Conservation

Katie Evans, Director of Communications and Conservation for the Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD), has been named chair of the Steering Committee for California Data Collaborative, a network of water professionals.

“I’m so impressed with the work that the Data Collaborative has done since the organization was founded and I’m really looking forward to the implementation of the tasks we have planned for the next year,” Evans said. “One of my key priorities will be sharing this work with other agencies around the state so they can see the value of these data tools.”

The California Data Collaborative (CaDC) is a collaborative project of local cities, water retailers, and land planning agencies to build new data infrastructure to ensure California has reliable water today and into the future. This work enables CaDC agencies to share costs and jointly develop technical solutions to common challenges.

“CVWD has long been on the forefront of using data and research to help promote water conservation and guide our efforts to protect our water sources,” said Jim Barrett, General Manager of CVWD. “We look forward to this leadership role with CaDC to continue to collaborate with partners on a statewide level to develop the data and research to protect this most important resource.”

Evans was promoted to CVWD’s Director of Communications and Conservation position in January 2018 after previously serving as Conservation Manager. She also served as Public Information Officer for the Desert Water Agency from 2008-2015.

Evans has a master’s degree in public administration from Northwestern University in addition to a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University.

Coachella Valley Water District is a public agency governed by a five-member board of directors. The district provides domestic and irrigation water, agricultural drainage, wastewater treatment and reclamation services, regional storm water protection, groundwater management and water conservation. It serves approximately 108,000 residential and business customers across 1,000 square miles, located primarily in Riverside County, but also in portions of Imperial and San Diego counties.
